Only a few places left: Training course: “Tensor flow and Deep Learning”, HPC2N, Umeå, 8-9 May, 2019

This two day course begins with an introduction to Tensorflow and continues with some basic knowledge about Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), and how to use GAN advanced deep learning in practice for various applications. Later, we will introduce the recent advanced deep learning models (e.g., Transformer, ELMo, BERT) in NLP (natural language processing).

The course consists of lectures and hands-on exercises. Please bring a laptop.

Training Seminar: “VASP best practices”, PDC, Stockholm, 29 May 2019

Weine Olovsson from NSC will be visiting PDC on the 29th of May and will give a training seminar about how to run VASP efficiently on supercomputers. Case studies will be shown with examples from Beskow and Tetralith. The seminar will consider parallel efficiency and memory usage for different calculations, including influential settings such as NPAR, NCORE, NSIM and KPAR.

The last part of the seminar will be for questions, problems and general discussion. You will have the chance to log in to Beskow to run jobs and practice what you have learned (but note that for this you will need to have a PDC account before the seminar starts). Weine is the main expert on VASP within SNIC so if you use VASP for research, be sure to make the most of this opportunity!

Seasonal School: HPC for Life Sciences, 10 - 13 June 2019, Stockholm

Molecular modelling and simulations are integral part of biomolecular research. Yet, there is insufficient expertise on efficient usage of HPC resources among the user community.  We are bringing the core developers of GROMACS, NAMD, AMBER and VMD - some of the most popular and well-known applications in the field. Over the 4 days of the event, the school program will allow participants to get a comprehensive understanding of the  usage of the different codes; their scalability and performance, as well as ways to avoid potential issues; and learn the best practices about using them on HPC systems. Extensive hands-on sessions will cover more than half of time during the school. 

The school is jointly organised by PRACE and BioExcel and supported by SNIC.

Training seminar: “Making your research data fit for a future of open science and open data” in Lund, 25 April 2019, 12:30 - 14:00

Researchers are getting more and more demands on sharing their data.  Demands are coming from funders, publishers, authorities, other researchers etc.  How to share data?  The FAIR Data Principles are supposed to guide researchers in how to share data in order to be F=findable, A=accessible, I=interoperable, R=re-usable.

The seminar will be an introduction to the FAIR Data Principles, which has grown in importance during the last years, among research communities, funders, research infrastructures. The seminar will also bring up practical tips and examples on what you can do as a researcher to make your data FAIR.

The seminar is offered in collaboration with the University Library of Lund University and will be held in English.  The speaker is Maria Johnsson from the University Library.

Registration opened: PDC summer school 2019: “Introduction to High Performance Computing”, Stockholm, 19-30 August 2019

The PDC summer school provides the skills needed to use high-performance computing (HPC) resources, and includes an introduction to a range of topics, such as: 

- HPC programming languages, libraries and tools 

- modern computer architectures 

- parallel algorithms, and 

- optimizing serial and parallel programs. 

Case studies in various scientific disciplines will be used to help illustrate these topics. The course consists of both lectures and guided hands-on lab sessions.
