Aim and targeted outcomes

Lund University has decided to support infrastructure for the University’s Strategic Research Areas (SRAs) by allocating 1.8 MSEK for a call for support of SRA Infrastructure (STYR 2022/596).

We now invite applications for support for infrastructure with deadline 1 May 2022.

Target group for this call is Principal Investigators (PI) from the SRAs at Lund University.

At least two SRAs must benefit from the proposed infrastructure, and it will be seen as positive if even more SRAs benefit. Proposals can for example apply for salaries related to existing infrastructures like technicians, costs for making existing infrastructures available for more SRAs, or applications can be for one-off investments in equipment. Infrastructure is defined in a broader sense and includes other resources than merely physical equipment like databases and software.

Evaluation process

• The call invites proposals comprising at least two different SRAs.
• The chair of the SRA Collegium is responsible for the call and assessment process.
• Proposals are pre-ranked by an independent assessment group of experts from LU appointed by the chair of the SRA Collegium.
• The Pro Vice-Chancellor for infrastructure and digitalisation decides on which projects the Vice-Chancellor should be recommended to fund based on the recommendation from the assessment group.
• The Vice-Chancellor decides on the allocation of funds to the main applicants for the proposals suggested for funding.

Ranking criteria

• The project engages at least two SRAs. In the application, it must be specified which SRAs are included in the application or, possibly, other strong research areas at Lund University. All SRAs that are supposed to benefit from the infrastructure must appear in the application.
• Description of how the infrastructure will support the SRAs.
• Description of the scientific significance and the infrastructure specifically.
• Description of the placement of the infrastructure, both physically and administratively.
• Description of possible relevance of the infrastructure for education which relates to the SRAs concerned.

General conditions

• Applications for infrastructure must clearly describe how the support received will be of benefit for at least two SRAs and preferably more SRAs.
• Equipment or other resources must be purchased during 2022 or 2023. Received funds can be used to cover costs for purchases, installations, operations, and maintenance.
• Statement of whether the same or similar equipment is located elsewhere at Lund university.
• Statement describing whether funding has been applied for or is planned to be applied for from other funding providers for the same equipment, and how the infrastructure will be financed after the internal support period.
• Infrastructure can be funded up to maximum 900 000 SEK and as minimum 400 000 SEK.
• A budget must be included in the application
• Granted funds must cover direct as well as indirect costs
• The disposition period for infrastructure funding is two years and three months from October 2022.

Outline of the proposal

• Title of the application
• Name of the main responsible SRA with name, title, e-mail, telephone number, and cost center for the main applicant PI.
• List of other involved SRAs title, e-mail, and telephone for co-applicant PIs.
• Description of the infrastructure covering the conditions and criteria above
• Budget and financial plan for the infrastructure. Please use the budget template below.
• The application has a maximum of 3 pages excluding budget and references.
• The application is written in English.
