Research engineer in carbon cycle modeling

The Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science together with the ICOS Carbon Portal are seeking to appoint a research engineer with a strong background in programming and applied mathematics.

The appointee will be part of a vibrant and international team within the Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science. The Inverse Modelling group within the department operates and further develops data assimilation and inverse modelling systems capable of quantifying sources and sinks of carbon dioxide through the assimilation of observational data. The department also hosts the ICOS Carbon Portal that develops operational data products and services building on ICOS observations for analysing the state of the carbon cycle of Europe.

The appointee will work on the development and application of the data assimilation and inverse modelling systems together with group members, members of the ICOS Carbon Portal and international project partners and collaborators.

The post will be available for 24 months, with a preferred starting date of June 2022.
